Timothy is a senior fellow in the Methodology & Quantitative Social Sciences department. His work has focused primarily on sources of measurement and nonresponse error. Timothy has also invested considerable effort in examining the health behaviors of disadvantaged populations including homeless persons, immigrants, cultural minorities, criminal justice, and mental health populations. Some of the health behaviors he has examined among these populations include cancer screening, nutrition, physical activity, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, and drug abuse.
Currently, Timothy is working on several analyses concerned with public attitudes towards the legitimacy of science in general and social science in particular. He is also working on analyses concerning sociological underpinnings of item nonresponse in social surveys as well as analyses concerning ethnic variability in acquiescent response styles. Timothy is also playing an active role leading a number of grant research projects.
Most recently, Timothy served as director of the Survey Research Laboratory, professor of Public Administration, and vice chair of the Social & Behavioral Institutional Review Board at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), where he is professor emeritus. In 2015, he was named a fellow of the American Statistical Association. Playing an active leadership role within the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR), Timothy has most recently served as the organization’s president.
