Elise is a senior research scientist in the Health Sciences department at NORC. She primarily works on data review, processing, and delivery, data analytics and dissemination, and data visualization. She is well-versed in understanding complex data structures and data issue investigation and resolution with over 5 years’ experience managing data processing and delivery on the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS). She is an expert in implementing data quality checks in large-scale longitudinal surveys and identifying methods to streamline and automate ongoing data review and editing. She is an experienced data team leader, having led numerous teams for both annual MCBS data processing as well as rapid cycle supplemental MCBS surveys on topics like the COVID-19 pandemic. She is a skilled analyst and technical writer and regularly contributes her expertise to manuscripts, data briefs, and infographics for the MCBS.
Elise currently oversees the delivery of almost 20 annual MCBS data products spanning 6,000 health-related variables. The products range in content (e.g., health insurance, prescription medicines), unit of analysis (e.g., beneficiary-level, interview-level), and analytic purpose. She leads the production of MCBS analytic products such as table packages, data briefs, and infographics on topics like beneficiaries’ access to telemedicine, use of preventive care services, and chronic pain. She was instrumental in designing MCBS data review and editing procedures and protocols on structure and logic checks, case-level editing, global cleaning, and backcoding. Beyond leading numerous annual MCBS data processing and delivery efforts, she led data processing and delivery for three rapid cycle supplemental surveys on MCBS beneficiaries’ experiences with COVID-19 and a stand-alone survey of Medicare beneficiaries who are aligned with a Next Generation Accountable Care Organization (NGACO). She currently oversees the data team for the OECD-sponsored Patient-Reported Indicator Survey (PaRIS).
Prior to NORC, Elise worked as a researcher at a community-based violence prevention program at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. She conducted neighborhood assessments, focus groups, and community surveys and produced maps overlaying gun violence with health-related and environmental factors.
