Alex is a communication researcher who explores the ways messaging can be used to influence health behavior change
Alex is a health communication researcher and a member of the Social Data Collaboratory at NORC. Dr. Kresovich is a quantitative researcher (survey, content analysis, experiment, meta-analysis) at the intersection of health communication and media effects and is passionate about implementing behavior change theories in health communication interventions aimed at improving outcomes related to youth mental health, tobacco use, and opioid use. His first-authored peer-reviewed research on the subject has been published in JAMA Pediatrics, Health Communication, and the Journal of Health Communication and received media coverage in The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, and Verywell Mind.
As a member of Dr. Sherry Emery’s Social Data Collaboratory, Dr. Kresovich has led work operationalizing social media influence in the tobacco space to improve our understanding of the various forms influence takes in public health spaces. His social media work includes collaborating with Dr. Amelia Burke-Garcia on research exploring the potential of social media influencers to promote vaccination. Outside of his social media work, Dr. Kresovich is leading quantitative analysis for a mental health intervention aimed at high school youth in Texas. Previously, he worked on the How Right Now mental health campaign and led a meta-analysis of anti-racism interventions in healthcare settings. Most recently, he has expanded his work with Justice Community Innovation Network (JCOIN) to explore the influence of partisan media consumption on opioid stigma and policy support, along with opioid communication research exploring the protective potential of opioid knowledge on opioid use disorder blame.
